Hello, and welcome to my column! For the mystery event we are going to the Crater of Diamonds State Park. [...]

Hello, and welcome to my column!

For the mystery event we are going to the Crater of Diamonds State Park.

The clues and answers are:

1. “Make a Dare to Stand for CPRIST.” Unscramble the letters and it spells “Crater of Diamonds State Park.”

2. “Two Elders have two things in common with our activity — their names and their hair. Isn’t that a fancy clue?” Mr. Green and Mr. Newman. Green is a “fancy” color of diamond. Newman is a famous diamond found at the Crater of Diamonds, and many diamonds are white, as is their hair.

3. “The mystery trip is a 10 out of 10.” Diamonds are 10 out of 10 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness.

4. John 1:36 is the verse where John the Baptist identifies Jesus as the Lamb of God. The song, “You are My All In All,” has the phrase, “Jesus, Lamb of God,” and also has the line, “You are the treasure that I seek.”

5. “Julian’s Masterpiece, Caribou Ranch, I Am Sam, William Shatner (He has metamorphosed), “I am the Walrus,” and, for good measure, let me add Dr. Brad Harrub to this clue.” Answer: “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” John Lennon was inspired by his son Julian’s drawing, and Elton John re-recorded it at Caribou Ranch. “I Am Sam” used Beatles songs in its soundtrack, and Shatner also recorded the song in spoken word. “I am the Walrus” refers to “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” and Lucy is the name of the evolutionist’s ape Dr. Harrub often refers to.

6. Newspaper article reads, “Boy looking for rabbits finds carats instead.” Carats = Diamonds

7. “April Fools! No, this clue is rock solid.” Diamonds are April’s birthstone, and diamonds are often called rocks.

Hidden Clue in 9/25 article: “Just thought I would make it easier and print the verse in plain sight so you would not have to go out and find it.”

Hidden Clue in 10/9 article: “You are My All in All,” first stanza: “Seeking you as a precious jewel.”

Everyone is invited. We will be leaving on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 8:00 a.m. from the church parking lot. The cost is $7.00 adults, $4.00 children ages 6-12, and children 6 years old and under free.

You are welcome to take shovels, rakes, and other garden tools to hunt diamonds with in the park. If you don’t bring any of those items, they are available to rent at the park with a large deposit. Please bring a sack lunch. We will leave the park around four that afternoon.

Let me know if you would like to go!

—Rod
